SADR and El Salvador establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level

The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and El Salvador have agreed to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.

It was announced Monday in a joint statement, following a meeting in San Salvador between the Minister Delegate to Saharawi MAE, responsible for Latin America, El Haj Ahmed, and Foreign Minister of El Salvador, Hugo Martinez.

The SADR government has accredited as concurrent ambassador the head of its diplomatic mission to the Republic of Panama, while the Salvadoran government appointed its Permanent Representative to the UN in charge of relations with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, the statement said.

The Saharawi diplomat informed his interlocutor, during the meeting, on the latest developments of the Western Sahara question, particularly after the deadly attack against the Camp of Gdeim Izik and Moroccan repression against Saharawi civilians in the occupied city of El Aaiun.

From his part, Foreign Minister of El Salvador, Hugo Martinez, expressed the solidarity of the people and government of El Salvador with the Sahrawi victims of the Moroccan repression in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The Saharawi diplomat had discussions, during his stay, with other senior government officials and the legislature body in El Salvador.
